Rami Farouk Daher, Ph. D., M. Arch., B.Sc.
Rami Daher, born in Amman, Jordan on May 5, 1965, is a conservation architect interested in
research related to the conservation of historical and cultural resources, especially the
conservation of the architectural heritage of recent periods. He holds a Ph. D. in
architecture (1995) from Texas A&M University, a Masters of architecture (1991) from the
University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor of architecture (1988) from the University of
Jordan. Daher is also a recipient of a Certificate in Historic Preservation (1995) from the
College of Architecture at Texas A&M University. Since 1999, Daher has been appointed as a
faculty Fellow at the Historic Resources Imaging Laboratory, College of Architecture, Texas
A&M University.
Daher held the position of a research architect at Rasem Badran's architectural Office in
Amman (1988-89). He also held teaching positions at the University of Minnesota's College
of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (1990), Jordan University of Science and
Technology's Department of Architecture (1991-92), and at Texas A&M University's College of
Architecture (1993-95). Daher had worked as a consultant for several heritage conservation
and environmental management projects funded by the World Bank and other international
donors (e.g., CIDA, JICA). Heritage conservation endeavors and consultation include:
Historic Old Salt Development (1999-2000), Amman Downtown Tourist Zone (1999-2000), Coastal
Conservation and Development Project (1998-2000), Conservation of the Zaidani Mosque of
Tibneh (1997-1999), Kerak and Jerash First Priority Projects (1997), and other several
projects. Daher is a co-founder and a principle of TURATH: Heritage Conservation &
Management and Environmental Design Consultants (1999-present), (please refer to the
attached company profile of TURATH). Daher is currently working as an assistant professor
of architecture at Jordan University of Science and Technology (1996-present). In addition
to heritage conservation, he is also interested in Heritage Tourism, Cultural Resources
Management, Environmental Management, Cultural Anthropology, Theories of Knowledge, Critical
Theory and Cultural Studies.

- The Project is funded by the Japanese International Development Agency (JICA). Project
includes the adaptation of Abu Jaber Building into a Visitor Center and Historic Museum, the
development, conservation, and management of Tourists Trails, Public Plazas, and Panoramic
Lookouts; in addition to the adaptation of historic houses into cultural and tourist
activities. Tasks included heritage conservation management/design and development
consultant for PCI (Japan) and Tibah Consultants (Jordan).

detailing) for the Historic House Museum of Abu Jaber in Salt

Consultant for the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and the Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA). Conduct a Tracer Study to evaluate the impact of environmental
management training in King Hussein Environmental Management Training Program (KHEMTP) which
is executed by WUSC in coordination with the General Corporation for Environmental
Projection (GCEP).

The Qastal Development & Conservation Project: The plan for the conservation of Qastal
proposes an 8-10 year project to conserve centuries of Arab-Islamic culture through the
interpretation and representation of historic and modern remains and cultural property at
Qastal. The Project presents a partnership between heritage conservation, environmental
protection, and genuine public participation and development.

Upgrading, conservation, and pedistrinization of the historic city cores in the cities of
Kerak and Jerash in Jordan. The World Bank in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and
